Field Trip to Seguin Outdoor Learning Center

Recommended Items to bring:
It will be hot Monday when we go on our field trip. Your child might want to wear shorts, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and bring a water bottle with their name on it. We will leave the school at 9am and return about 2
pm.

Information about our field trip destination:
Welcome to the Seguin Outdoor Learning Center.
Our 115-acre facility is nestled along Geronimo Creek in historic Seguin, Texas. We offer a variety of outdoor activities and invite you to explore our woods, fields, and waters for your next adventure. Join us for a day of education through experience.

Adventure is a key component of many of our programs. Our activities are exciting, challenging, and lots of fun, and they are also educational. They teach you about yourself, and teach you how to work with others. The lessons you learn during your adventure experiences will serve you for life.

FISHING: Our 3/4 acre stocked pond and fishing pier provide the setting for hours of catch-and-release enjoyment. Your child will fish with an authentic bamboo pole and have a chance to catch bass and perch.

GEOCACHING: This is a high-tech scavenger hunt using a Global Positioning System (GPS) unit. Learn the basics of the sport, including how to mark and find a waypoint, and how to find a hidden cache. After one lesson you'll want to become part of the worldwide geocaching community. For more information log onto the official geocaching web site: www.geocaching.com

BIKING: Our relatively flat, yet challenging, course is perfect for the beginning mountain biker. Learn to bike safely and how to perform basic bike maintenance.

FISH PRINTS: This is an art activity for those students who don’t want to or can’t mountain bike. It will be indoors and the children will be working with a fish print to make their work of art.

ROCKET SCIENCE: You child will make a hypothesis and do an experiment to see how high a film canister with different levels of water and sizes of alka seltzer tablets will shoot up into the air.

GROUP GAMES: The children will use teamwork to figure as many items as they can that are listed on their scavenger hunt list.
